PART 3 OF GLADSTONE MCWHISKERS AND THE PHANTOM PIE-CRAWL!!!

GLADSTONE MCWHISKERS AND THE PHANTOM PIE-CRAWL!!! - PART 3

Part 3 of a 15 part internet-exclusive mini-adventure by Paul Chandler, set in Barcelona.

Now, in no way can it be said that Gladstone McWhiskers was cat-ist; but let's just say he was a trifle wary from previous bad experience.

After all he was a mouse and a mouse who had almost been eaten by cats on several occasions - including by one of his now dearest friends, Deeley Katt. The second occasion had been at a christmas party when he was still at school and by accident the person who had dressed up as Santa had been of a feline persuasion. (Really! It had been a terrible scandal at the time - and the little mice had all escaped uneaten. Just.) In addition to this, his father had also been eaten by a cat - although really this had been his own fault and he'd probably deserved it...

ANYWAY - despite all this and although he had nothing against any civilised cats; Gladstone did almost fall off his chair in fright when the cat waiter had peered at them all close up and had looked especially hungrily at Gladstone (at least, so he thought). The waiter had spoken in Spanish, to begin with - but upon realising that the diners did not fluently speak the language he had repeated his question in english.

"How can I help you, gentlemen!?" he purred with a slightly sinister tone of growl - as he ran a nervous paw through his sleek black and white fur. "Are you ready to order?"

"Absolutely!!" beamed Charlie. "I'll have a slic of every pie on the menu, please..." he announced grandly and then added. "I want extra extra gravy too, please..."

Ollie just chuckled and ordered a small Mexican bean pie and a cup of tea; but it took Gladstone a little longer to compose himself. "One full cat cheddar cheese pasty, please..." he ordered and then blushed. "Sorry - I meant full FAT!!"

"I know what you meant, senor..." grinned the cat waiter and completed the order before hurrying away to pass their requests to the chef.

"I don't know why I even said that..." Gladstone gasped, but it seemed that neither of his friends were listening as Charlie seemed to be rather too busy showing Ollie the range of pies that he was about to embark on devouring.

"I'm particularly looking forward to trying the parmesan and purgleberry pie... I hear it's truly amazing, Ollie and tastes a little like ripened honey..."

Oliver nodded and Gladstone tried to take an interest, but he kept staring over towards the kitchen - for he was certain that he could see the cat waiter staring out at him through a crack in the kitchen door.

He was right too; for he most certainly was...

Gladstone shivered.

TO BE CONTINUED, TOMORROW.

What will happen to Gladstone when his dinner arrives? Should he be concerned for his welfare and will Charlie explode from eating so many pies?
